Steam is the Enemy

Updated: May 6, 2021

Consider the fact that steam is used to remove paint, adhesives, wallpaper and grime in general. It’s no wonder that steam from a dishwasher can be just as permeable and destructive.

When a dishwasher has a foil or melamine covered door panel, this material is especially vulnerable to steam. The steam from the dishwasher can delaminate these door panels and affect the doors adjacent to the appliance as well. It is recommended that dishwashers not be opened when in use and allow a full ten minutes or more to pass before opening the door at the end of the cycle.

A solid wood door panel fares better, but can still be susceptible to the effects of steam. Please be aware and take all precautions to control the enemy.
